To support genuine growth, the firm (Saffery Champness), is looking to strengthen its tax department with the addition of an enthusiastic and experienced Corporate Tax professional. As this is considered to be a key appointment in the strategy for growth and presents a significant opportunity for ongoing career development for the right candidate the firm is seeking a high calibre and motivated candidate placing particular emphasis on the individual’s attitude and desire to contribute and progress.
Working alongside senior management the role will initially comprise of a mix of compliance and advisory work. Specifically all-round corporate tax compliance and accounting, liaison with HMRC and external work providers, assisting partners/senior managers with tax planning and advisory work, building, developing and maintaining strong client relationships, management, training and supervision of more junior staff, involvement in marketing to existing and target clients.
Crucially, you will be keen to take on some responsibility for effectively delegating and reviewing work and mentoring more junior staff, although the ability to become fully engaged in the timely delivery of work will be essential.
The ideal candidate will be expected to have some involvement in the delivery of advisory work, developing their experience in areas such as year end planning for OMBs, R&D claims, capital allowances planning, reorganisations, acquisitions, disposals, refinancing, international issues and cross border transactions amongst others.
The role will involve a significant level of client contact, necessitating confidence, commerciality and strong communication skills. It is anticipated that the role will be predominantly office based, although travel to client sites will be required.
As attitude and enthusiasm are key, the firm is open minded as to the exact background and level of applicants, from ‘Big 4’ to General Practice, but the successful candidates will have to be experienced and self-motivated tax professionals, formally qualified CTA/ACA/ACCA and used to working to high professional and technical standards.
